The Fresno City College Honors program application deadline is 5:00pm on February 28th (a

Congratulations to Darren Sue After the first 4 out of 6 total California Math League
Competition CAML test, he is currently in an 8 way tie for 2nd place for the top scoring
students in California.
Volleyball Team 1 Last night in games 3 and 4, Team 1 consisting of Vincent Barron, Harpreet
Basi, Shelbi Hickey, Bahar Madani, Cole Patten, Danielle Schrednitz, Devan Stewart, and Genky
Vang registered 2 impressive wins by the scores of 11-5 and 9-8. Bahar Madani and Devan
Stewart continued to show consistency in serving combined with the team's efforts lead to
both of those wins.
Volleyball Team 2 Last night's volleyball matches were intense. Team 2 consisting of Brooke
Rafferty, Taylor Barry, Nicole Fronda, Patricia Fronda, Jarina Guiterrez, and Greta Lopez
played short handed, but showed great heart and hustle in all four games.

The California State Summer School for the Arts (Innerspark) is seeking the most talented
high-school aged visual, literary, media, and performing artists in California. The teenagers
who are selected through the competitive application process will attend one of the country's
premier summer arts institutes on the campus of California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.
Innerspark offers instruction in the fields of Animation, Music, Dance, Film and Video,
Theatre, Creative Writing, and Visual Arts. The application is due by February 29, 2008 and

FAFSA Workshop for the Parents of Seniors - One Student in attendance will win a
University High School will be hosting a FAFSA workshop on February 6th at 6:00 p.m.

complete the FAFSA on the Web during the workshop they must register for a PIN at

Fresno City College Assessment Center on Campus A representative from the Fresno City
College Assessment Center will be on campus on Wednesday, February 27th to give the
placement test to any students who wish to take classes at Fresno City College. UHS

etc.)should plan on taking this test, as should any UHS seniors who plan on attending Fresno

To promote driver safety and awareness among young people, Civil Service Employees
Insurance Company will award up to two $1000 and eight $500 scholarships, one each to a

CBDA ALL-STATE HONOR BAND
Six UHS students have won positions in the California Band Directors
Association All-State Honor Band! Big congratulations to Natalie
Erskine, Carl Gardner, Max Krongaus, Stephanie Loomer, Matt Shaver, and
Andrew Vanderpaardt! This musicians were selected based upon a
challenging audition that included over 1500 entries from all over
California! The All-State Honor Band Concert is Feb. 24 at the Saroyan
Theatre.

Six UHS students have won positions in the California Band Directors
Association All-State Honor Band! Big congratulations to Natalie
Erskine, Carl Gardner, Max Krongaus, Stephanie Loomer, Matt Shaver, and
Andrew Vanderpaardt! This musicians were selected based upon a
challenging audition that included over 1500 entries from all over
California! The All-State Honor Band Concert is Feb. 24 at the Saroyan

ASB Meetings
ASB meetings need to be moved to Thursdays for this semester. Meetings
will begin at 12:15 on each Thursday, starting with this first one,

CSF Sign-ups CSF meetings are starting up again. We will be meeting each
Tuesday in Dr. Torrance's room at 12:15 p.m. Application paperwork is

The California State Summer School for the Arts (Innerspark) is seeking
the most talented high-school aged visual, literary, media, and
performing artists in California. The teenagers who are selected through
the competitive application process will attend one of the country's
premier summer arts institutes on the campus of California Institute of
the Arts in Valencia. Innerspark offers instruction in the fields of
Animation, Music, Dance, Film and Video, Theatre, Creative Writing, and

Summer Biomedical Research Internship Program allows students to work

PowerSchool schedule you still need to register on My Fresno State to

date it becomes more difficult to register. Students who are in Geology,
Biology, or History 2 will need permission numbers to register. Mr.
Orgill will be distributing permission numbers for History 2. Mrs. Lung
and Mr. Gile will have the permission numbers for Geology and Biology.
FAFSA Workshop for the Parents of Seniors - One Student in attendance
will win a
University High School will be hosting a FAFSA workshop on February 6th
at 6:00 p.m. (location to be determined). During the workshop, students
and/or parents can also fill out the FAFSA online for the 2008-2009
academic year. If students and/or parents intend to complete the FAFSA
on the Web during the workshop they must register for a PIN at

United States Air Force Academy Summer Seminar This program allows students to spend a
week immersed in all aspects of cadet life. Students are assigned to an element with an
upper class cadet as their element leader. This cadet will be with students almost 24 hours a
day and will serve as their mentor and guide. Students will attend over thirty workshops, with
topics ranging from aeronautics to humanities. Applications are available at:

The California State Summer School for the Arts (Innerspark) is seeking the most talented
high-school aged visual, literary, media, and performing artists in California. The teenagers
who are selected through the competitive application process will attend one of the country's
premier summer arts institutes on the campus of California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.
Innerspark offers instruction in the fields of Animation, Music, Dance, Film and Video,
Theatre, Creative Writing, and Visual Arts. The application is due by February 29, 2008 and

Deals and Discounts for Parents Taking their Children on College Visitation Trip
Amtrack offers a half-price train ticket to a parent or guardian accompanying a high school

Are you interested in tutoring to make a little extra money?
A student is in need of a tutor that can help her with Chemistry, Algebra II, and Spanish. The
tutor is needed 2-3 times per week. The pay is $10 per hour. The student would like to be
tutored at her house at approximately 5:00 p.m. every other day. If you are interested,

FAFSA Workshop for the Parents of Seniors
University High School will be hosting a FAFSA workshop on February 5th at 6:00 p.m.
(location to be determined). During the workshop, students and/or parents can also fill out
the FAFSA online for the 2008-2009 academic year. If students and/or parents intend to
complete the FAFSA on the Web during the workshop they must register for a PIN at
http://www.pin.ed.gov no later than seven to 10 days prior to the workshop. Students must
also bring 2007 W-2s and federal income tax information for themselves and their parents.

Adult Volleyball League Sign-up Attention all students who are interested in being a part of
the first UHS volleyball team: Sign-ups are Monday, January 7th and Tuesday, January 8th. If
you are interested, you must sign up with Ms. Sanbongi by Tuesday, January 8th. You can

The California State Summer School for the Arts (Innerspeark) is seeking the most talented
high-school aged visual, literary, media, and performing artists in California. The teenagers
who are selected through the competitive application process will attend one of the country's
premier summer arts institutes on the campus of California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.
Innerspark offers instruction in the fields of Animation, Music, Dance, Film and Video,
Theatre, Creative Writing, and Visual Arts. The application is due by February 29, 2008 and

Stanford Medical Youth Science Program
The Stanford Medical Youth Science Program is looking for economically disadvantaged and
