Science Olympiad State Finals
Congratulations to our Science Olympiad team A for their achievements at the NorCal State Finals competition last Saturday at UC Merced. The team took 7th out of 18 teams (up from 9th last year), bringing home awards in 9 events (double last year). Though we placed 2nd in regional competition, UHS finished decisively ahead of both Edison (10th) and Buchannan (11th) this weekend.
Special congratulations go to Janelle Hobbs and Darren Sue for medaling in 3 events, and to Albert Chang and Tracey Liu for medaling in 2, and to Jake Hurst, Amanda Bruce, Jon CHu, Josh Roberts, Dani Roberts, Chloe Houghton, and Roman Sook for each medaling in 1 event against some stiff competition.
We greatly appreciate the support of our Science Olympiad families who transported the team (and all their 'stuff'!) and provided snacks, a comfortable home base, and lots of help and encouragement.

UHS Swim Team This year, the Clovis West Invite included 46 swim teams and over 1,500 swimmers throughout the state of California. Aubrey and Genevieve swam well enough to give University High an 18th place finish in the girls varsity division out of the 46 teams competing, WOW, they are only freshmen!!! Both girls swam fast enough to make automatic CIF Valley qualifying times. This means that University High may be represented at the CIF Valley championships to be held in May, however, UHS will probably not be able to officially score at the meet. ThatÕs OK, because UHS will still make their presence known. Individually, Aubrey swam a lifetime best in the 200 Individual Medley and placed 8th out of 61 swimmers. Genevieve swam the 50 Freestyle in a time that placed her 28th out of 131 competitors. For the girls second and final event, both Aubrey and Genevieve swam the 100 Breast Stroke. Aubrey finished 12th and Genevieve finished 13th (separated by a mere 0.37 seconds) out of 80 swimmers competing in the event. Overall, the meet was a great success and many coaches were glad to see that University High had the opportunity to compete.
