Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Concert!
Sunday, November 30th, 7:00 PM
Paul Shaghoian Concert The Fresno Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will play works by Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Zeisl, and Sibelius. Many of these fine musicians are UHS students!
Tickets are $12 Adults, $8 Seniors/Students.

UHS Community Service Opportunity
University High School and Bullard High School will be collecting supplies and making packages for the Calwa Outreach Program's Homeless Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday November 26th, 2008. (Benefits the homeless in Fresno)
Items needed: Brown and white lunch bags, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, washcloths, candy (for children's packages), warm clothing if you have it: socks, gloves, scarves, jackets, hats, etc.. UHS will contact local hotels, dentists and other services to ask for additional donations. UHS Goal: 400
Donated items should be taken to the following classrooms:
Freshman: Room 2-3
Sophomores and Seniors: Room 18
Juniors: Room 17
Start date: Monday, November 10th
End date: Tuesday, November 25th.
On Tuesday evening, students will meet to make the packages.
On Wednesday, November 26th packages will be distributed at Roeding Park from 7-10

Design a poster highlighting job safety and health for teens.
Criteria: California teen between 14 to 18 years old
Poster may be up to 17" x 22" and in any language(s). It may also be in any media (pen & ink, collage, paint, print, photography, etc.).

Important PowerSchool Announcement:
No one in the UHS system has been able to access PowerSchool today (Tuesday, Nov 18th), as the server is down. Please be advised that PowerSchool is working on this issue, and hopes to have it resolved soon. We regret this inconvenience, and ask for your patience as the "resolution" proceeds.
UHS Community Service Opportunity
University High School and Bullard High School will be collecting supplies and making packages fro the Callowa Outreach Program's Homeless Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday November 26th, 2008. (Benefits the homeless in Fresno)
Items needed: Brown and white lunch bags, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, washcloths, candy (for children's packages), warm clothing if you have it: socks, gloves, scarves, jackets, hats, etc.. UHS will contact local hotels, dentists and other services to ask for additional donations.
UHS Goal: 400
Start date: Monday, November 10th
End date: Tuesday, November 25th.
On Tuesday evening, students will meet to make the packages.
On Wednesday, November 26th packages will be distributed at Roeding Park from 7-10

George Washington and the Formation of American Character Essay Competition The registration deadline for "George Washington and the Formation of the American Character" is November 28, 2008. ESSAYS ARE DUE JANUARY 23, 2009 (giving students the holidays to work on their compositions).

The scholarship is based upon a simple one-page application and three to four page essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years".

Attention all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors: Fresno City College will be conducting a Placement Test on campus, December 3rd from 3pm to 5pm. Dates: December 1st, 8th, 10th and May 7th. We also need volunteers for Drama events in January and the end of May.
The goal is to have a list of at least 10-15 parents with trucks and at least 15 really strong people to help with the heavy lifting.
If you can help: Please email Sylvia Waxman at sylviawaxman@comcast.net or call her at 349-6368.
She would like to have volunteers informed, ready and willing to work well in advance of the first event on Nov. 8th.

The California Association of Collectors is thrilled to announce a scholarship for all California high school seniors for their use at any accredited college, university or vocational school: $2,500 (First Prize), $2,000 (Second Prize), and $1,500 (Third Prize).
The scholarship is based upon a simple one-page application and three to four page essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years".

Parent Volunteers Needed
Parents with trucks and several strong people needed to assist the Music Department with the hauling of choir risers to the upcoming UHS Music Venues.
Dates: December 1st, 8th, 10th and May 7th. We also need volunteers for Drama events in January and the end of May.
The goal is to have a list of at least 10-15 parents with trucks and at least 15 really strong people to help with the heavy lifting.

Join the Junior Board of Tree Fresno!
Reminder: Friday is the deadline to apply for the Junior Tree Fresno Board.
The Junior Board of Tree Fresno will give high school students a high quality, organized, and focused volunteer experience. In 2007 the Juior Board wrote and received a grant for a project in Roeding Park. The students learned to work together to write the grants, to work with the city government and other agencies in accomplishing their project. Opportunities to write new grants are available.
The Junior Board of Tree Fresno is now accepting applications for 2008-09. The commitment to serve as a director is from November to May with mandatory monthly meetings on the third Monday at 4pm at the Tree Fresno Office.
Applications are available online at www.treefresno.org. The deadline to turn in the application, questionaire, and teacher/counselor recommendation is November 7, 2008.
