Magic of the Arts DVD's ready for pick up on Thursday!
Magic of the Arts DVDs will be available for pick up on Thursday, December 17 in the UHS office.
Students may come before school, between finals or afterschool for pick-up.
Office hours are 7:30-5:00 PM.

 

Winter Break
Winter Break for UHS Students and Office Staff will begin on Friday, December 18th thru Sunday, January 3rd.
The first day of Winter Session will begin on Monday, January 4th at 8:00.
The office will open at 7:30 on Monday, January 4th.

Finals Schedule--Last Day of Finals!
Finals will be administered using the following schedule
Thursday Dec. 17th
Per. 6 8:30 - 10:00 (Freshmen are released for the day)
Per. 7 10:30 - 12:00

If a college class final conflicts, then take the college final as scheduled and prior to Monday Dec. 14th arrange an alternate final time with your UHS instructor.

Afternoons are available as makeup times.

 

 

Geology Students
Geology textbooks are due to Mrs. Royce THIS WEEK.
Please turn your textbook into the office by Thursday . These books will be needed for the spring class.

 

FREE SAT Math Workshop for Juniors Kaplan will be hosting a free SAT math workshop for our students on Saturday, January 9, 2010 and Saturday, February 6, 2010. Students need to RSVP in Dr. Torrance's class. The 1/9 workshop will be held from 9-12:30 in ED 140 and the 2/6 workshop will be in Connely Arts 101 from 9-12:30. See your counselor with any questions!

 

 

 

 

UCSF Fresno Summer Biomedical Internship Program See your counselor right away if you are a JUNIOR interested in participating in a summer internship that will allow you to participate in basic and clinical research in fields such as surgery reconstruction, radiology, basic bench science, and epidemiology. Qualified students must submit an application (which are available from your school counselor), a one-page typed questionnaire, a letter of recommendation, a transcript, and a copy of your PSAT or SAT scores. Applications are due Friday, January 29th.

 

 

 

 

Forensics No coaching appointments this week, unless you've made an appointment. Be watching for info from Ms. Bergen about schedules in January. Scripts are due for state quals tournament when we return from winter break! You'll need to know the rules and format for your speeches--check with Ms. Bergen if you're not sure what is required or haven't received the rules/format for your event(s) by Wednesday.

The spring fundraiser theme this year will be "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day!" Skits (in Latin?), songs about classical Rome, modern Rome, anything Italian - Latin Jazz?
Be creative - check with your performance teachers.
Be ready to audition for a place on the program by the 13th of February.
The event itself will be held on March 20.

Bentley University Tomorrow25 Award Hey juniors! Bentley University is having their sixth annual Tomorrow25 competition, a leadership program designed to honor 25 high-achieving high school juniors who demonstrate leadership and accomplishment in a variety of ways in order to make positive change in the world around them. The winners will receive a group advertisement in TIME magazine and an all-expenses-paid trip for them and their parents to the 2010 Bentley Leadership Forum. This forum is presented in cooperation with TIME magazine and features prominent leaders from all over the world. It will be held on April 22, 2010 on Bentley campus, located minutes from Boston. Contestants must be nominated and nominations must be submitted by January 15, 2010. ACT Poster Concept Contest The ACT is announcing a contest to encourage students to tap into their creativity and qualify for a scholarship of up to $5,000! The winning poster will be used to produce the 2010-2011 ACT test date information poster, distributed to high schools nationwide! CAC Announces 2009-2010 Scholarships! The California Association of Collectors has announced a scholarship for California high school seniors for use at any accredited college, university, or vocational school. Three prizes will be awarded: First ($2,500), Second ($2,000), and Third ($1,500). The scholarship is based upon a one page application and essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years." KFC Colonel's Scholars KFC Colonel's scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need to qualify for their Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must: - Earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75 - Enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence. - Plan to pursue a bachelor's degree - Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident - Demonstrate financial need The online scholarship application will be available from December 1, 2009 to February 10, 2010 at www.kfcscholars.org Students can also call toll-free 1-866-KFC-7240 with questions.

 

Colby College's Ralph F. Bunche Scholars Program The Ralph J. Bunche Scholars honors program recognizes students of color with demonstrated scholastic strength and leadership potential. Those who qualify, receive special grants (scholarships) as part of their financial aid package. Each Bunche Scholar is not required to work a campus job as part of the financial aid package, and received a one-time $3,000 internship stipend for use during once summer during his or her Colby career. Students interested in being nominated for this program should contact their counselor as a letter of recommendation and an application are required for consideration. Buche nominations are due November 15 for Early Decision 1 candidates, and January 1 for Early Decision 2 and Regular Decision candidates. Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition offers 120 students college scholarships of up to $50,000 and the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. (all expenses paid) to present their research. To enter, students submit a research project that sheds light on a health problem, using the methods of analysis employed by epidemiologists. Epidemiology is the science of exploring patterns of disease, illness and injury within populations with the goal of developing methods for prevention, control and treatment to improve health outcomes. Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes honors outstanding young leaders who have made a significant positive difference to people and our planet. Their leadership and courage make them true heroesÑand inspirations to us all. Each year, the Barron Prize selects ten winners nationwide. Half of the winners have focused on helping their communities and fellow beings; half have focused on protecting the health and sustainability of the environment.The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes is available to students age 18 and younger who have organized and led a service activity that has clearly benefited other people. Your service activity must have been initiated and motivated primarily by you and cannot have been an assignment for school or work. Additionally, you must demonstrate a positive spirit and high moral purpose. The Barron Prize relies on thoughtful adults to identify and nominate children from the diverse communities in which they live. The Prize accepts nominations on an annual basis and distributes $2,500 awards every fall. American Legion Scholarship American Legion Scholarship is a offering up to $18,000 in scholarship money for the best constitutional speech. This years topics include issues within the following: Amendment 5, Amendment 6, Article 5, and Article 4 Section 3 Para 1. Speak to Mrs. Bergen for more details.

 

Filipino-American Women's Club Scholarship The Filipino-American Women's Club of Fresno and Vicinity, Inc. will award scholarships of $300 each to 10 high school seniors. Applicants must of of Filipino heritage or descent, have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or above, and mother and/or grandmother(s) must be or be willing to be club members. A completed application and transcript must be submitted on or before December 19, 2009. If you have questions or need more information, call 431-9769. Scholarship Opportunities from the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation Are you the child of a vineyard employee or the child of a wine grape grower OR are you interested in studying viticulture/enology? If your family owns a vineyard or is a vineyard employee, you may be eligible for one of 6 scholarships offered to graduating seniors by the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation. At least two scholarships offered provide $1,000 per year for four years at any UC or CSU campus and at least four scholarships offered provide $500 a year for two years at any California community college. Students may study the subject of their choice. For students interested in studying viticulture and/or enology, the Foundation is offering the Robert Miller Scholarship. This scholarship program is for students interested in attending Alan Hancock Community College of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. American Legion Scholarship American Legion Scholarship is a offering up to $18,000 in scholarship money for the best constitutional speech. Filipino-American Women's Club Scholarship The Filipino-American Women's Club of Fresno and Vicinity, Inc. will award scholarships of $300 each to 10 high school seniors. Applicants must of of Filipino heritage or descent, have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or above, and mother and/or grandmother(s) must be or be willing to be club members. Scholarship Opportunities from the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation Are you the child of a vineyard employee or the child of a wine grape grower OR are you interested in studying viticulture/enology? If your family owns a vineyard or is a vineyard employee, you may be eligible for one of 6 scholarships offered to graduating seniors by the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation. At least two scholarships offered provide $1,000 per year for four years at any UC or CSU campus and at least four scholarships offered provide $500 a year for two years at any California community college. Students may study the subject of their choice. For students interested in studying viticulture and/or enology, the Foundation is offering the Robert Miller Scholarship. FREE SAT Math Workshop for Juniors

Kaplan will be hosting a free SAT math workshop for our students on Saturday, January 9, 2010 and Saturday, February 6, 2010. Students need to RSVP in Dr. Torrance's class. The 1/9 workshop will be held from 9-12:30 in ED 140 and the 2/6 workshop will be in Connely Arts 101 from 9-12:30. See your counselor with any questions!

Drama "Brown Bag Theatre"
There will be a Brown Bag theatre presentation in Room 2-3 on Monday, December 14th at 12:15.
We will present scenes, monologues and student written sketches.

American Legion Scholarship American Legion Scholarship is a offering up to $18,000 in scholarship money for the best constitutional speech. Filipino-American Women's Club Scholarship The Filipino-American Women's Club of Fresno and Vicinity, Inc. will award scholarships of $300 each to 10 high school seniors. Applicants must of of Filipino heritage or descent, have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or above, and mother and/or grandmother(s) must be or be willing to be club members. A completed application and transcript must be submitted on or before December 19, 2009. If you have questions or need more information, call 431-9769. Scholarship Opportunities from the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation Are you the child of a vineyard employee or the child of a wine grape grower OR are you interested in studying viticulture/enology? If your family owns a vineyard or is a vineyard employee, you may be eligible for one of 6 scholarships offered to graduating seniors by the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation. At least two scholarships offered provide $1,000 per year for four years at any UC or CSU campus and at least four scholarships offered provide $500 a year for two years at any California community college. Students may study the subject of their choice. For students interested in studying viticulture and/or enology, the Foundation is offering the Robert Miller Scholarship. This scholarship program is for students interested in attending Alan Hancock Community College of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The Leo Club will hold its final meeting of 2009 this coming Friday, December 11, at 12:15 P.M. We will be covering a number of items pertaining to our activities after Winter Break and during electives, so please make sure to attend if possible.

 

Soccer Winter Session

Student performers get ready!!
The spring fundraiser theme this year will be "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day!" Skits (in Latin?), songs about classical Rome, modern Rome, anything Italian - Latin Jazz?
Be creative - check with your performance teachers.
Be ready to audition for a place on the program by the 13th of February.
The event itself will be held on March 20.

This year ASB has decided to help out the local Toys for Tots toy drive. Students and teachers bring your unwrapped, new toys in and get spirit points for your class. Drop off locations are as follows:

Bentley University is having their sixth annual Tomorrow25 competition, a leadership program designed to honor 25 high-achieving high school juniors who demonstrate leadership and accomplishment in a variety of ways in order to make positive change in the world around them. The winners will receive a group advertisement in TIME magazine and an all-expenses-paid trip for them and their parents to the 2010 Bentley Leadership Forum. This forum is presented in cooperation with TIME magazine and features prominent leaders from all over the world. It will be held on April 22, 2010 on Bentley campus, located minutes from Boston. Colby College's Ralph F. Bunche Scholars Program The Ralph J. Bunche Scholars honors program recognizes students of color with demonstrated scholastic strength and leadership potential. Those who qualify, receive special grants (scholarships) as part of their financial aid package. Each Bunche Scholar is not required to work a campus job as part of the financial aid package, and received a one-time $3,000 internship stipend for use during once summer during his or her Colby career. Students interested in being nominated for this program should contact their counselor as a letter of recommendation and an application are required for consideration. Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition offers 120 students college scholarships of up to $50,000 and the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. Epidemiology is the science of exploring patterns of disease, illness and injury within populations with the goal of developing methods for prevention, control and treatment to improve health outcomes. Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition offers 120 students college scholarships of up to $50,000 and the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. Scholarship Opportunities from the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation Are you the child of a vineyard employee or the child of a wine grape grower OR are you interested in studying viticulture/enology? If your family owns a vineyard or is a vineyard employee, you may be eligible for one of 6 scholarships offered to graduating seniors by the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation. At least two scholarships offered provide $1,000 per year for four years at any UC or CSU campus and at least four scholarships offered provide $500 a year for two years at any California community college. The spring fundraiser theme this year will be "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day!" Skits (in Latin?), songs about classical Rome, modern Rome, anything Italian - Latin Jazz?

Bentley University is having their sixth annual Tomorrow25 competition, a leadership program designed to honor 25 high-achieving high school juniors who demonstrate leadership and accomplishment in a variety of ways in order to make positive change in the world around them. The winners will receive a group advertisement in TIME magazine and an all-expenses-paid trip for them and their parents to the 2010 Bentley Leadership Forum. This forum is presented in cooperation with TIME magazine and features prominent leaders from all over the world. It will be held on April 22, 2010 on Bentley campus, located minutes from Boston. National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine Are you interested in a future in Medicine? Student performers get ready!!
The spring fundraiser theme this year will be "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day!" Skits (in Latin?), songs about classical Rome, modern Rome, anything Italian - Latin Jazz?
Be creative - check with your performance teachers.
Be ready to audition for a place on the program by the 13th of February.
The event itself will be held on March 20.

 

Holiday Grams Why not brighten up someone's holiday season? Come buy a Holiday Gram between rooms 17 and 18 at lunch. Sales start November 30th. December 11 is the last day so buy them early.

Bentley University Tomorrow25 Award Hey juniors! Bentley University is having their sixth annual Tomorrow25 competition, a leadership program designed to honor 25 high-achieving high school juniors who demonstrate leadership and accomplishment in a variety of ways in order to make positive change in the world around them. The winners will receive a group advertisement in TIME magazine and an all-expenses-paid trip for them and their parents to the 2010 Bentley Leadership Forum. This forum is presented in cooperation with TIME magazine and features prominent leaders from all over the world. It will be held on April 22, 2010 on Bentley campus, located minutes from Boston. Contestants must be nominated and nominations must be submitted by January 15, 2010. National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine Are you interested in a future in Medicine? Would you like to attend a Forum on medicine that would allow you to enhance your leadership skills, attend small seminars hosted by some of the most prestigious and technologically-advanced medical institutions and schools, and obtain information on future medical specialties? If so, ask your counselor to consider you for nomination to the national Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine. It is a 10 day forum during the summer. Scholarships are available. ACT Poster Concept Contest The ACT is announcing a contest to encourage students to tap into their creativity and qualify for a scholarship of up to $5,000! CAC Announces 2009-2010 Scholarships! The California Association of Collectors has announced a scholarship for California high school seniors for use at any accredited college, university, or vocational school. Three prizes will be awarded: First ($2,500), Second ($2,000), and Third ($1,500). The scholarship is based upon a one page application and essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years." KFC Colonel's Scholars KFC Colonel's scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need to qualify for their Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must: - Earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75 - Enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence. - Plan to pursue a bachelor's degree - Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident - Demonstrate financial need The online scholarship application will be available from December 1, 2009 to February 10, 2010 at www.kfcscholars.org Students can also call toll-free 1-866-KFC-7240 with questions.

 

Colby College's Ralph F. Bunche Scholars Program The Ralph J. Bunche Scholars honors program recognizes students of color with demonstrated scholastic strength and leadership potential. Those who qualify, receive special grants (scholarships) as part of their financial aid package. Each Bunche Scholar is not required to work a campus job as part of the financial aid package, and received a one-time $3,000 internship stipend for use during once summer during his or her Colby career. Students interested in being nominated for this program should contact their counselor as a letter of recommendation and an application are required for consideration. Buche nominations are due November 15 for Early Decision 1 candidates, and January 1 for Early Decision 2 and Regular Decision candidates. Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition offers 120 students college scholarships of up to $50,000 and the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. (all expenses paid) to present their research. To enter, students submit a research project that sheds light on a health problem, using the methods of analysis employed by epidemiologists. Epidemiology is the science of exploring patterns of disease, illness and injury within populations with the goal of developing methods for prevention, control and treatment to improve health outcomes. Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes honors outstanding young leaders who have made a significant positive difference to people and our planet. Their leadership and courage make them true heroesÑand inspirations to us all. Each year, the Barron Prize selects ten winners nationwide. Half of the winners have focused on helping their communities and fellow beings; half have focused on protecting the health and sustainability of the environment.The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes is available to students age 18 and younger who have organized and led a service activity that has clearly benefited other people. Your service activity must have been initiated and motivated primarily by you and cannot have been an assignment for school or work. Additionally, you must demonstrate a positive spirit and high moral purpose. The Barron Prize relies on thoughtful adults to identify and nominate children from the diverse communities in which they live. The Prize accepts nominations on an annual basis and distributes $2,500 awards every fall. American Legion Scholarship American Legion Scholarship is a offering up to $18,000 in scholarship money for the best constitutional speech. Filipino-American Women's Club Scholarship The Filipino-American Women's Club of Fresno and Vicinity, Inc. will award scholarships of $300 each to 10 high school seniors. Applicants must of of Filipino heritage or descent, have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or above, and mother and/or grandmother(s) must be or be willing to be club members. A completed application and transcript must be submitted on or before December 19, 2009. If you have questions or need more information, call 431-9769. Scholarship Opportunities from the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation Are you the child of a vineyard employee or the child of a wine grape grower OR are you interested in studying viticulture/enology? If your family owns a vineyard or is a vineyard employee, you may be eligible for one of 6 scholarships offered to graduating seniors by the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation. At least two scholarships offered provide $1,000 per year for four years at any UC or CSU campus and at least four scholarships offered provide $500 a year for two years at any California community college. Students may study the subject of their choice. For students interested in studying viticulture and/or enology, the Foundation is offering the Robert Miller Scholarship. Study Night Need help studying for finals? On Monday, December 14th from 3:30-6:00 in room ED 140 the peer mentors will be hosting a study night for ALL STUDENTS. The peer mentors will be available to tutor in all subject areas. The first students through the door will get a slice of pizza.

Soccer Winter Session
The $50 fee for participating in the Soccer elective needs to be paid to Mr. Benslay before Friday Dec. 11th. Anyone with an unpaid fee will be dropped from the class and their spot offered to the next person on the waiting list. Please see Mr. Benslay if you have questions.

 

UHS Toys-For-Tots drive
This year ASB has decided to help out the local Toys for Tots toy drive. Students and teachers bring your unwrapped, new toys in and get spirit points for your class. Drop off locations are as follows:

OUr Drive ends on Dec. 11, so lets get as many as we can to help others have a happy holiday season.

UHS Toys-For-Tots drive
This year ASB has decided to help out the local Toys for Tots toy drive. Students and teachers bring your unwrapped, new toys in and get spirit points for your class. Drop off locations are as follows:

Seniors- Room 18
OUr Drive ends on Dec. 11, so lets get as many as we can to help others have a happy holiday season.

 

CATS Trip Deadline
This is the final week for students to purchase their reservation to go on the fieldtrip. $55 for side mezzanine seats, and $65 for middle mezzanine seats. The bus transportation down and back is included. See Mr. Benslay if you would like to make other arrangements for getting down and/or back. The date is March 13, bus leaves at 7:00 A.M. Hurry and get your tickets, only a few middle seats are left. Buy your tickets in the office 12:30 - 1:00 or after 3:00 in the afternoon.

 

Stanford Guest Attention all students interested in going to Stanford: A former UHS graduate that currently attends Stanford will be on campus on Monday, December 14th at lunch in room 4. She will be able to answer any questions you may have about Stanford and campus life.

The spring fundraiser theme this year will be "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day!" Skits (in Latin?), songs about classical Rome, modern Rome, anything Italian - Latin Jazz?

Bentley University is having their sixth annual Tomorrow25 competition, a leadership program designed to honor 25 high-achieving high school juniors who demonstrate leadership and accomplishment in a variety of ways in order to make positive change in the world around them. The winners will receive a group advertisement in TIME magazine and an all-expenses-paid trip for them and their parents to the 2010 Bentley Leadership Forum. This forum is presented in cooperation with TIME magazine and features prominent leaders from all over the world. It will be held on April 22, 2010 on Bentley campus, located minutes from Boston. Contestants must be nominated and nominations must be submitted by January 15, 2010. Colby College's Ralph F. Bunche Scholars Program The Ralph J. Bunche Scholars honors program recognizes students of color with demonstrated scholastic strength and leadership potential. Those who qualify, receive special grants (scholarships) as part of their financial aid package. Each Bunche Scholar is not required to work a campus job as part of the financial aid package, and received a one-time $3,000 internship stipend for use during once summer during his or her Colby career. Students interested in being nominated for this program should contact their counselor as a letter of recommendation and an application are required for consideration. Buche nominations are due November 15 for Early Decision 1 candidates, and January 1 for Early Decision 2 and Regular Decision candidates. Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition offers 120 students college scholarships of up to $50,000 and the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. (all expenses paid) to present their research. To enter, students submit a research project that sheds light on a health problem, using the methods of analysis employed by epidemiologists. Epidemiology is the science of exploring patterns of disease, illness and injury within populations with the goal of developing methods for prevention, control and treatment to improve health outcomes. American Legion Scholarship American Legion Scholarship is a offering up to $18,000 in scholarship money for the best constitutional speech. Filipino-American Women's Club Scholarship The Filipino-American Women's Club of Fresno and Vicinity, Inc. will award scholarships of $300 each to 10 high school seniors. Applicants must of of Filipino heritage or descent, have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or above, and mother and/or grandmother(s) must be or be willing to be club members. Scholarship Opportunities from the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation Are you the child of a vineyard employee or the child of a wine grape grower OR are you interested in studying viticulture/enology? If your family owns a vineyard or is a vineyard employee, you may be eligible for one of 6 scholarships offered to graduating seniors by the California Wine Grape Growers Foundation. At least two scholarships offered provide $1,000 per year for four years at any UC or CSU campus and at least four scholarships offered provide $500 a year for two years at any California community college. Students may study the subject of their choice. For students interested in studying viticulture and/or enology, the Foundation is offering the Robert Miller Scholarship. Fresno State Theatre Arts Department Open House The Fresno State Theatre Arts Department invites you to visit their campus on Thursday, December 3rd for an open house. This event gives college-bound high school students the opportunity to meet the faculty and to discover more about our programs in Theatre and Dance. The day includes workshops, orientation sessions, tours of the facility, and a pizza party. The event culminates with a final dress rehearsal of Bertolt Brecht's "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui: The Gangster Play." Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition offers 120 students college scholarships of up to $50,000 and the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. Study Night Need help studying for finals? On Monday, December 14th from 3:30-6:00 in room ED 140 the peer mentors will be hosting a study night for ALL STUDENTS. The peer mentors will be available to tutor in all subject areas. The first students through the door will get a slice of pizza.

 

Soccer Winter Session
The $50 fee for participating in the Soccer elective needs to be paid to Mr. Benslay before Friday Dec. 11th. Anyone with an unpaid fee will be dropped from the class and their spot offered to the next person on the waiting list. Please see Mr. Benslay if you have questions.

 

 

 

 

CATS Trip Deadline
This is the final week for students to purchase their reservation to go on the fieldtrip. $55 for side mezzanine seats, and $65 for middle mezzanine seats. The bus transportation down and back is included. See Mr. Benslay if you would like to make other arrangements for getting down and/or back. The date is March 13, bus leaves at 7:00 A.M. Hurry and get your tickets, only a few middle seats are left. Buy your tickets in the office 12:30 - 1:00 or after 3:00 in the afternoon.

 

Stanford Guest Attention all students interested in going to Stanford: A former UHS graduate that currently attends Stanford will be on campus on Monday, December 14th at lunch in room 4. She will be able to answer any questions you may have about Stanford and campus life.

The spring fundraiser theme this year will be "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day!" Skits (in Latin?), songs about classical Rome, modern Rome, anything Italian - Latin Jazz?

Fresno State Theatre Arts Department Open House The Fresno State Theatre Arts Department invites you to visit their campus on Thursday, December 3rd for an open house. This event gives college-bound high school students the opportunity to meet the faculty and to discover more about our programs in Theatre and Dance. The day includes workshops, orientation sessions, tours of the facility, and a pizza party. The event culminates with a final dress rehearsal of Bertolt Brecht's "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui: The Gangster Play." Bentley University is having their sixth annual Tomorrow25 competition, a leadership program designed to honor 25 high-achieving high school juniors who demonstrate leadership and accomplishment in a variety of ways in order to make positive change in the world around them. The winners will receive a group advertisement in TIME magazine and an all-expenses-paid trip for them and their parents to the 2010 Bentley Leadership Forum. This forum is presented in cooperation with TIME magazine and features prominent leaders from all over the world. It will be held on April 22, 2010 on Bentley campus, located minutes from Boston. ACT Poster Concept Contest The ACT is announcing a contest to encourage students to tap into their creativity and qualify for a scholarship of up to $5,000! Students enter the contest by designing a poster that encourages other students to attend college and take the ACT as their college entrance exam. The winning poster will be used to produce the 2010-2011 ACT test date information poster, distributed to high schools nationwide! CAC Announces 2009-2010 Scholarships! The California Association of Collectors has announced a scholarship for California high school seniors for use at any accredited college, university, or vocational school. Three prizes will be awarded: First ($2,500), Second ($2,000), and Third ($1,500). The scholarship is based upon a one page application and essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years." KFC Colonel's Scholars KFC Colonel's scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need to qualify for their Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. Colby College's Ralph F. Bunche Scholars Program The Ralph J. Bunche Scholars honors program recognizes students of color with demonstrated scholastic strength and leadership potential. Those who qualify, receive special grants (scholarships) as part of their financial aid package. Each Bunche Scholar is not required to work a campus job as part of the financial aid package, and received a one-time $3,000 internship stipend for use during once summer during his or her Colby career. Students interested in being nominated for this program should contact their counselor as a letter of recommendation and an application are required for consideration. Buche nominations are due November 15 for Early Decision 1 candidates, and January 1 for Early Decision 2 and Regular Decision candidates. Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition offers 120 students college scholarships of up to $50,000 and the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. (all expenses paid) to present their research. To enter, students submit a research project that sheds light on a health problem, using the methods of analysis employed by epidemiologists. Epidemiology is the science of exploring patterns of disease, illness and injury within populations with the goal of developing methods for prevention, control and treatment to improve health outcomes. Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes honors outstanding young leaders who have made a significant positive difference to people and our planet. Their leadership and courage make them true heroesÑand inspirations to us all. Each year, the Barron Prize selects ten winners nationwide. Half of the winners have focused on helping their communities and fellow beings; half have focused on protecting the health and sustainability of the environment.The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes is available to students age 18 and younger who have organized and led a service activity that has clearly benefited other people. Your service activity must have been initiated and motivated primarily by you and cannot have been an assignment for school or work. Additionally, you must demonstrate a positive spirit and high moral purpose. The Barron Prize relies on thoughtful adults to identify and nominate children from the diverse communities in which they live. The Prize accepts nominations on an annual basis and distributes $2,500 awards every fall. Filipino-American Women's Club Scholarship The Filipino-American Women's Club of Fresno and Vicinity, Inc. will award scholarships of $300 each to 10 high school seniors. Applicants must of of Filipino heritage or descent, have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or above, and mother and/or grandmother(s) must be or be willing to be club members.
